Contract Machining – Deep Hole Drilling

Deep hole drilling of workpieces with drilling depths of up to 12 metres and diameters of up to 450 mm.

Deep hole drilling enables the precise production of exceptionally deep bores with outstanding dimensional accuracy and superior surface quality. Depending on the application, machining is carried out either on a rotating workpiece or with a counter-rotating tool to ensure maximum concentricity and process reliability. Using advanced technologies such as single-lip drilling and the BTA drilling process, we achieve efficient and cost-effective machining, even in demanding materials and at extreme drilling depths.

M25 – Eccentric Deep Hole Drilling

The M25, a TBT T30-1500-So deep hole drilling machine, is specialized in eccentric deep hole drilling with a drilling range from 15 mm to 50 mm in diameter. Equipped with manual controls, it allows drilling to a maximum length of 4,200 mm. This machine is designed for precise drilling operations and can handle workpieces weighing up to 15,5 tons, offering flexible capabilities for various drilling requirements.

What is the BTA method?

BTA Deep Hole Drilling (Boring and Trepanning Association) is a highly precise drilling method specifically developed for creating deep holes in metallic materials. This process is primarily used in manufacturing to produce deep, straight, and accurate holes with tight tolerances and high surface quality.

In the BTA deep hole drilling process, both the workpiece and the BTA tool rotate simultaneously. The specialized tool consists of a drill rod with cutting edges that remove material. A key feature of the BTA process is the coolant, which is supplied under high pressure through the drill rod to the cutting area. Chip removal takes place through the inner section of the drill rod, allowing chips to be effectively and continuously evacuated.

This method in contract manufacturing allows for drill diameters from 20 mm up to over 400 mm and depths of up to 12 meters. The combination of precise drill guidance, efficient chip removal, and high process reliability makes BTA deep hole drilling ideal for applications in the automotive, aerospace, and oil & gas industries.

FAQ - Deep Hole Drilling

What is deep hole drilling?

Deep hole drilling is a highly precise drilling method for creating long and deep holes in a wide variety of materials. It enables the production of holes with tight tolerances and high surface quality, often up to several meters in depth.

Which materials does by Breitenbach machine?

hhpm by Breitenbach machines a variety of materials such as cast iron, hard cast, forged steel, and high-chromium steel. Our expertise also covers requirements such as surface roughness, roundness accuracy, and cylindricity.

What depths and diameters can by Breitenbach drill?

We can machine drill depths of up to 12 meters and diameters of up to 400 mm. This allows us to carry out large and demanding projects.

What is counter-rotation drilling?

Counter-rotation drilling is a deep hole drilling method in which both the tool and the workpiece rotate. It improves the precision and surface quality of the hole.

What is the BTA method?

BTA deep hole drilling is a method for creating deep, precise holes in metallic materials. It uses high-pressure coolant for cooling and efficient chip removal, making it ideal for demanding industries.
